He was aliasing on the tdm servers around 8 months ago or so.

Wonder what the big secrecy thing is? If I read that I was dead, I'd be pretty quick to respond and clarify.

Sorry to say it, but I'm leaning toward the "daelmun is dead" hypothesis. I have no tangible evidence for this obviously...

1) A name Daelmun (he would never have capitalized the D anyway) on QL means nothing
2) daelmun, for years and years, rarely aliased and had no motive of secrecy
3) He loved q2 and has yet to login to the tastyspleen forums after those (Last Active: August 30, 2007, 09:59:27 am)
4) He was the last person I would guess to just abandon the q2 community unprovoked (there was no drama surrounding daelmun before his departure)
5) All his closest q2 friends (gren, for example) say he completely disappeared - leaving q2 is one thing, but to also just never even sign on to msn messenger again...?

I am just as skeptical as anyone when I read on forums that he died from a car wreck - with no link to an article, not even a close q2 friend of daelmun claiming this, etc...
But I think something bad did happen

I think it's still premature to assume someone is dead. I known a person to disappear once after having their computer stolen. Another had a ski mobile accident and broke both arms. It could be anything but in the unfortunate case of somebody dying, I think that it's important to confirm it and provide some kind of decent memorial webspace (if not send flowers to the family)

My link to QL was to point out someone blaspheming his name, I know it's not him.

Leaning to something happening too. I forget who I was speaking with, but it was a Euro who regularly e-mailed with dael.
Hadn't received any for a long time, and told me the car wreck info.

And yeah, most of my games with dael, runs of 3 or more, ended with "ggs, I'm going to go play with Gren"

Something def. does not add up. He was very cool with gren, and actually he was cool with just about everyone. No post on his youtube videos, no saying anything to anyone on q2scene, or here.

I think I may have been the only player to make him mad, which really suprised me, because he was the nicest guy in the world. And he seemed angry for only about 1 or 2 minutes

I hope he is okay, and he knew he had to quit q2 to focus on work, or his girlfriend didn't like him playing. But we all know he would of said something to gren, or made a post, something.

Here's all that I was able to find with the Info that I have:

He has not posted under any daelmun accounts on multiple quake 2 sites and quake 2 tourney websites since late 2007. I think that August was the most recent activity that I could find anywhere.

From the comments that I could see, he was did not announce leaving anywhere

He has been in 2 clans in the EDL and other Euro matches. Devine and FINR.

He's listed as living in Norway, but played for finish Team FINR

He never capitalized the d in any of his accounts. (besides the |D| clan tag)

I could not find any past aliases

He seams to have first been active in quake 2 starting in 2003-2004 under the name Daelmun (based on history i saw on the Devine home page)

Most of his recorded tourney activity started in 2006

He's also EXTREMELY well known. The shuper jumps video and several tourney vids pop up everywhere on google searches. So he is obviously missed by a lot of people, making no form of contact since 2007 a very suspicious thing.

I suggest that anyone who knows his full name should try e-mailing some Norwegian news papers to see if they have any records. Actually, I don't have his full name but I may do that anyway.

it's quite possible that he just didn't want to go on the 'net any more. It's happened. I know a few people who've done it. Doesn't mean that nobody really knows who he/she was (name, address, anything) so nobody really even know if it was even a single person!

see, this is what happens when you don't go to q-con & you're a quake fan.

infact, I know a guy who played Q2 very "aggressively" for years & then completely dropped of the radar. We don't play any more but he only lives ~15 minutes away. Another friend of mine played CnC games nearly all the time, then when he got ~1/2 way through college he stopped all games. He wouldn't even install them any more and one of his reasons for getting a mac was to help resist the temptation of playing.

I have always wondered what happened to daelmun.

You would think someone would know his real name or at least part of it. (are any of his close friends still around ?)

Quads might be able to trace his old ip to a certain section of Norway (this long after might be difficult).

We know the date of his last posting.

If we had the info listed above, searches of all media sources in the area might come up with something.

I would be willing to see what I could find, but I did not run in the same group as dael, so help would be needed.

I was able to find his first name, date of birth (lol?), and approximate time of disappearing. I tried e-mailing Norwegian newspaper with the little bit of info that I have, but have had no response yet. Although even I was able to find this info doing a simple google search, I don't think it's right to post it myself having never really known the guy.
