Here's an i386 Linux binary for megaq2, as well as the Makefile and g_items.c modification needed to build it. Other architectures untested. Extract into the same directory you extracted megaq2 (and optionally delete megaq2/gamex86.dll). (Insert another batch of disclaimers here.)

EDIT: these files posted at http://wifiman.tastyspleen.net/ because forum attachments suck.

EDIT: oops, forgot to mention that any additional .c files will have to be added to SRC in the makefile else they won't get compiled. Oh, and a good bit of this is from binaries/game/Makefile in the R1Q2 source.

Thanks WiFi. I'll attach the newest source. This is prerelease stage. So far no new bugs or glitches between 1.3 and 1.4a. You'll have to download any new models in the server.

Single Player test map!!!

Single player development is moving a long. Out of good faith I wanted to release a test version of Cutman's stage. Don't forget that you can slide by pressing duck and forward. Certain parts of the level require sliding to get through.

Also the cutman model is not finished so you're going to see a player/male without a skin. However the AI is still very fun!

extract to quake2\megaq2
start a single player game and type "map cutmantest"

I don't forsee any problems with including the compile fix for g_items.c upstream - all this does is remove the "static" qualifier on the armor *_index variables. (Does static even have an effect outside a function?) Here's the patch - and it's probably pretty obvious what it does even if you can't import unified diffs with the MS dev tools.

Copy the Makefile and .depends into the main source tree as well and you'll eliminate a separate Linux source package entirely.

And here's the 1.4a binary along with the updated source-fix zip (due to g_items.c change). Binary is smaller this time because I remembered to strip it...

New Single Player Test Map.

New Build of gamex86.dll. This is 1.41a, and is not stable at all
A new export of the needleman model released by beans
Unsupported preliminary chasecam modes. (cmds are chasecam 1 and chasecam 0)
New monster models

Extract to c:\quake2 and overwrite any existing megaq2 files
To start the map type:
game megaq2
map needlemantest

Hey there! I emailed peewee but no response! I've been following this mod since I saw it on qexpo and I really like it! I'd like to contribute with models and textures. I happened to make my own quick megaman mod for quake 1 before I found out about this and you can see a screenshot of my megabuster arm cannon shooting a white oval pellet here:

Let me know if you would want this in your mod, I could convert it to md2 and redo the texture so it matches the q2 palette.
Really love the first two levels you have put out for single player, and the needleman model was great! hah

Is there an IRC channel you guys chat in? I think that is a better way to communicate instead of posting on a forum over and over.

Thanks, I would love the extra help. I'm a programmer and 5% of this project is programming. The rest is content. I know that Overdose, Open Fortress, and a few other Qexpo booths have the same problem. TC's are time consuming. Anyway if you can put out models, then that would be awesome. I have to say I like your arm cannon better than mine. But anyway, I didn't receive an e-mail. Maybe my spam filter grabbed it. It does tend to be over arching sometiems. Send me a PM on here and I'll give your more details of what we need, and better ways to get a hold of the team.

I grew up on megaman X and X2. X3 was pretty lame and I don't dare touch any after it. So not including at least one (actually there's quite a few) references to it would have been unkind to my childhood memories.

As for metal man's attack. The only way to do justice to it is to make it 64 units tall, travel through walls, travel through players, and kill people in one hit. I'll eventually add it but it's better to keep it alive in spirit rather than to ruin it in practice by making a crappy version of it.
