Castle in the Highlands By Nathan "jitspoe" Wulf Beta 3 Entry to the Quake2 Cafe's 10th mapping contest. Recommended settings for vanilla Quake2: intensity 2 gl_modulate 2.3 vid_gamma .85 s_loadas8bit 0 s_khz 22 For this map, I really wanted to push for a unique, immersive environment that didn't even feel like it was in the rather limited, dated Quake2 technology. Bird sounds taken from "Morning in Scotland" video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nGq9mV2jy6k. All other sounds recorded by me, including the little tune played on a tin whistle I got for $2.50 at a thrift shop. ;) Most of the textures were created in Filter Forge. Higher res versions were used in my Paintball2 mod (http://www.digitalpaint.org/). Skybox rendered in Terragen. There are some subtle things, so explore and listen closely. :D Map details dumped from BSP: Total Brushes 2102 Modifiable 1910 World Brushes 1851 Brush Faces 11314 Modifiable Entities 21 Fixed Size Entities 192 Lights 25 Sky Brushes 20 Water Brushes 1 Clip Brushes 63 Target Entities 46 Targetnames 72 Detail 1188 Hint 41 Compile time: ~45 minutes
