________________________________________________________________________________________ Title : Iraq attack Filename : Iraq.bsp Date of Release : January 10, 2001 Author : DJ "Pan" Bloot Nick : pantera Email Address : bloowt@hotmail.com ________________________________________________________________________________________ How to use : Extract the files to your QUAKE2 directory. The paths will place the sky-files into your quake2/baseq2/env directory and the .bsp and textfile into your quake2/baseq2/maps directory. ________________________________________________________________________________________ * Description * Inspired by daveJ's de_Dust from Counter Strike, I tried to create a map with sand and sunshine. I finally found something that I haven't seen before in any other q2-map. Just check out the nice color of the map. Arghrad's sunfeature worked great with the 'sandlike' metaltexture I found to use on the floors. Because the map contains three open spaces I had to use THREE SUNS to make the sunlight look more realistic. I also tried to make more out of the jumpads. Not just that sucky windblowing sound, but with triggered speakers to make it more convincing. I also placed a few "taleshakers": triggered fences that pop up, right after you pass them. Just a few details that make the map more interesting and fun:) I'm very pleased with the way my jumpads turned out. I can't describe the fun I had the first time I played against human opponents in this map, so you'll have to find out for yourself. (By the way, I tested them a lot with eraser bots, but they didn't get pushed all the way up). The map contains three open spaces connected with hallways and teleporters. The layout is pretty 'simple'. No real high places, but all on the same level. So it won't take you long to get to know the map, although it is pretty large. The map was designed for 3 players or more, 1 on 1 is possible, but you'll have to be very quick to corner your opponent. One more thing; this map really rocks in teamplay when playing 2 vs 2 or 3 vs 3. ________________________________________________________________________________________ * Play Information * Game : Quake 2 Single Player : No Cooperative : No Deathmatch : Yes, 13 dm starts Difficulty Settings : No New Sounds : No New Graphics : Yes, custom sky * Construction * Base : scratch Buid time : a few months (on and off with A LOT of testing included;) Editor(s) used : QuArk 5.10 * Compilation * compile time : ~1 hour compile tools : buidq2-39: txqbsp39, timvis3, Arghrad compile machine : AMD K6-2 550, 196mb * Credits * : -id Software, Rust, and all other mappers out there -Gamersparadise for their great q2-servers, they run a lot of custom maps and hopefully this one too in the future:)) (quake2.gamersparadise.nl:27910) -^Viper^ for using his cliffedge sky:) * Known Bugs * : none * Other information * This is the first map I've ever finished, and I think it's also about the best I can do for a q2-map and the engine's limitations regarding r_speeds (like large open spaces and the use of many brushes to create more detail). There were moments that I almost gave up the whole thing, because of weird and annoying lighting errors. Often did ugly dark strokes appear on the weirdest places places, so I had a hard time fixing it all. But for some strange reason I had a gutfeeling I had to finish this map, so I did! O yeah, I smoked an awful lot during the process...just wanted to let you know. * Copyright / Permissions * Authors may NOT use this level as a base to build additional levels. Of course you can use some ideas, but remember...it has already been done before;) Please feel free to distribute this BSP, just include this file and we'll all be happy. But most important, you have permission to have fun. Comments, suggestions : bloowt@hotmail.com © Copyright 2001 pantera
