--------------------------------------------------------------- *************************************************************** Map Name: "FloatAway" DM level for Quake 2 by Shon Shaffer "Maric" Files: marics5.zip /marics5.bsp /marics5.txt/Custom texture folder/env Contact: s-shaffer@home.com Version: 9-22-99 *************************************************************** --------------------------------------------------------------- Additional Credit* * I have to give the bulk of the credit to the makers of TREAD, its an absolutely great program due to its accessibility and ease of use. * ID Software, of course, for Quake 2. * RUST- for the plethora of info provided : http://www.gamedesign.net * The guys and chicks that did the beta thing with the map of a newbie designer. they are : Havok,Void,Stu,Mickey * The custom textures are not mine so whoever put them in a map file and however they got into my machine is beyond my ability to descern, suffice it to say, they are pretty cool and credit goes to the unknown whoevers'. I've had as many as 1400 bsp maps on my harddrive at once so you can imagine the dificulty in nailing down just who did what out there in the Quake universe. I just don't want the credit due to others =) OH YEAH same goes for the great env. *GAMEPLAY INFO* Single Player : not now but one day maybe... maybe Deathmatch : well, thats what i made it for Cooperative : nope, unless you gang up on some lpb in dm. Difficulty Settings: nope Base System: Celeron 333-not oc'd /64 RAM /Voodoo2 Blackmajic *BUILD INFO* Build Time: 10 hours Utilities Used: *Tread *more Tread *and even more Tread, it has it all. Build Machine(s): same as above Final Compile Machine: " " " QBSP3 : 3 minutes QVIS3 : 4 hours QRAD3 : 3 hrs Known Bugs: Think i got em all *INSTALLATION* if you got this zip file intact just aim this puppy at your baseq2 folder and let go. *NOTES* Ok heres the argument for the map - I wanted to play with the colored lighting a little, i'm not to fond of most examples of its usage, that said i found that its prodigeous use makes for a gimicky map therefore i a made a gimicky map. It is very close in playing style to an Unreal- Tournament map (the UT map is by far a much better example of quality mapping) that is an absolute blast to play, the only catch being that it isn't Q2. It is very low grav and requires lots-o-jumps and semi-controlled floats. If your using a hook\grapple it ruins the purpose of the map but what the heck i just hope someone likes it. The r_speeds get a bit (read toooo...) high but i could figure no way around it in this type of map. If someone knows a better way please let me know. No quad and no ppp, this level is just toooo small for either in my opinion. OH YEAH please let me know what you think good or bad, i'm not overly sensitive either just go easy with the harsh language, remember we live in a "society". The two servers running this and my other maps are as follows : The Necromancers Lair @ 24.3.60.209 Backshooters Rail Lair @ 24.6.131.209 Please drop by and look for either Maric or Havok *COPYRIGHT/PERMISSIONS* "Marics5 & FloatAway" is Copyright (c) 1999 by Shon M. You may distribute this map on the internet, on a network or other electronic medium where it can be obtained for FREE, i strongly urge you to pass along this text file so that folks can see the time i put into typing it. That said just don't put it on any Cd for distribution without first informing me at s-shaffer@home.com Please don't use this map as a base for building other maps likewise : You may NOT convert this .bsp file into a .map file or reverse engineer it in any way. If you get this far, you know, i really don't care what you do with the map as long as you have fun with it and don't claim it as your own if your not me of course. NOT that i think that it is good enough for others to want to claim anyhow. Thanx : Maric
