I was inspired by Brutalist architecture. Not necessarily using concrete, but more the massive character. I found an old photo of a Coal Bunker that caught my interest and became the centerpiece of the map that everything was built around. My main focus with this map was to create something that was fun to play, had a good flow, good connectivity. Also spent time creating strong themes within the map. It was really interesting to go back to Quake 2 level design, after many years of hiatus. The map is very open and does have pretty high polycount in the corners, looking into the map. I did a couple of optimization passes, removing detailed geometry, hint/skip visibility pass and lowered the number of textures used.
