It kind of happens that way when you have a mod with a high learning curve and huge set up. When we did Action Quake 2 during the first few rounds of the splatter fest it was just you, me and jehar. We ended up jumping over to my megaman server and had gotten more players.

I honestly think that we should give BOTS a second chance in a month. We can collaborate to put together a new client zip that has an updated set of config files, all of the maps and files for your server, and a quick reference for new users. If we can put together a plug and play version of the client files that just plain works, then more users will be willing to jump in.

On that same note, maybe we should put together an effort to fix some of the issues before hosting it again. Fix things such as the team and class menus disappearing. I'll be willing to put the time into it. Do we have the source? Can someone compile it into a .so when I'm done?

menu's similar to other q2 mods would be nice, like QPong's join menu. Would make it a lot more user friendly.

another time w/in 4 weeks is a definate yess if people are up for it. This weekend is jailbreak on the TS server. It's similar to CTF but you capture players when they die.

You are more than welcome to mess with the source to attempt to fix any bugs and tweak anything. Let me know if you need any help.

I was attempting to get together a more friendly config pack, but im still puzzled as how quake2 execs the configs, and in what order...

config.cfg when you start the game,
autoexec.cfg when you join a server?

It executes config.cfg when the game starts (there is more to this I believe, but logically that's all that's really relevant)

autoexec.cfg executes when your game path changes.

So if you open quake2, load the console and type "game bots" it will exec the autoexec.cfg. It will not exec again if the map changes.

The game will attempt and execute a .cfg file that matches the filename of the map that loads. It also executes (though not always, bug #1029120) class.cfg (for each class) when you change.

My config set has a lot of forced calls/re-execs to try and work around all the glitches. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. There's also a function called "myclass" that will manually execute your class config with a keypress.

It's a deep mod with some hilariously fun gameplay if you can get 10-20 people running at once. That and it has the deepest map library of any mod I've ever seen. Thanks for giving it a whirl!

Great gameplay tweak. We should add that to the usual suspects for splatter fest.

Sorry to anyone that had trouble joining. The extra commands are pretty foreign to me. It took a while to figure out the "Changeteam" command and throughout the entire game we never figured out the command to use turrets. Fun none-the-less. When we play it again, I'll post all of those commands ahead of time.

Red: Strength: Adds 75 percent damage to your weapon power. Rocket = 100 + strength = 175 etc

-Press Backspace or 0 for Menu

Commands to Bind in Console:

Vote, Timeleft, Chaselist,
Bind +hook, Drop Rune, Use Power Screen,

bring opponents flag to your base, touch flags to score. defend your carriers and hunt the opponents flag carrier. usually people stay in base for defense and others designate the offense and use rune power ups for flag grabbing.

if you guys decide to come then just remind me, but the server should be up. also there is a bug when the map changes. i can fix it but then there would be no capture limit. just type reconnect in the console if that happens. later!
