Hey guys, we at the TastyCast want to bring some spice to the mix! If you have been watching QuakeLive TV (our wonderful friends) then you have a good idea of what we are going to be doing.

Can you be the TastySpleen King of the hill?

(note: if you'd like maps to be added to the pool, just let Jehar or me know)

This event is open for any to join, but you need to signup. Signups take place in our irc channel: irc.globalgamers.net #tastycast. To signup be there before 8:45 p.m. EST and type !signup. You will be added to the list. To see your place in line type !status and make sure you are in the server when it's your turn to go! Trying to keep the crown is what you want to do so win as many duels as you can. Once you have lost a duel you are out of the running. The next challenger picks the map.

This is totally open for all skill levels, and we want to see as many bodies in the server. Be there!

This event will be broadcasted live by Jehar on the TastySpleen TastyCast ! It's a great fun so I hope to see you there!

I watched a good portion of it yesterday, pretty enjoyable, and the last battle on dm1 was fun!

Jehar, I really like the pak that you use, any chance to get a copy of it?

PS: an audio only broadcasting would have been nice: I had to watch the video broadcast in windowed mode (because my cpu is too slow).
I'd rather connect to the server and just listen to a streaming audio (which I couldn't do last night: vid broadcast + q2 = laggy).

The map pool is all fine and well, I guess, but I would like to give us more variety without getting silly matches.

Ex.
The challenger wants a map that isn't on the map list, be it a duel map or not, to improve whatever it is they want to work on. What if they could ask the other player if the map they want to play is okay? The other player could turn it down, but they might not. There are so many maps out there for q2 that it is a really shame that we might not get to see them be played.

Though to save on time so others will give their turn, there would only be one map they would be allowed to ask about other wise it would have to be off the map list.

I know there are a lot of holes in my idea even if I can't see them myself. The thing I really want is to see the variety of maps there are out there. I don't want to see players being forced to a map that they don't know (with all the maps other there it's easy not to know a lot of them) or major rape.

Well that's my bit.

if someone has winner has the option to turn down a map you could take a while for a new map to be chosen. IE the winner like railz, the custom map chosen doesn't have a rail, that's why they say no.

i'd prefer no rails what so ever.

Unfortunately it's hard to find a duel map without a rail. There are a couple but not a whole lot. I had a brief conversation with Jehar and I'm now on the same page. The Koth event is for duelers. If new players want to join in then it's a friendlier environment than the actual tourney scene and is more inclusive than a regular duel server. I still think that most duel players are too picky about maps, and given a pool of 15 regular duel maps they'll pick the edge 90% of the time and the crucible the other 10%. So there is an extent in which duelers need to suck it up and broaden their horizons. However, there's no good reason to include maps that are not fit for dueling. Maps with BFG's, dead ends, and a single main atrium are bad choices. Basically any map that I've picked so far

My understanding of the discussion is this. Any new duel map is fine because the only chance new maps have to get played are in events like this. So during the week before the koth event discuss that map and offer it up. If it turns out to be a good choice everyone can get it here so there is no downloading later and people have a chance to warm up to it. I have a feeling that maps that get used in this event WILL be played again elsewhere. That's awesome and I can get behind a more limited map list because of that!

Would be nice to have the maps on the list packaged together and easy to dl for the new players.

and maybe a small readme about the rules.

just edit your first post to look solid

that should work for a read me, and all the maps are on the server for download when connected OR most of them are in the all maps download from tastyspleen

making a zip might work, but youd have to update it everytime a single map was added, and usually when some one makes a zip for maps they forget textures >_> so might as well just download everything on connect
